These rooms equipped with one Double bed offer a cozy simple setup for your stay. No frills, just simple comfort.
The area we are in is called the Golden Square Mile. This was originally home to the wealthiest in the Dominion, with many majestic and architecturally significant mansions. Our hotel was originally two separate homes constructed in 1910.
At some point, the main house where the reception is currently located was owned by a Madame Ambrose. Little is known about her, except for stories from her former tenants who have visited us. Our Family Suite was her Honeymoon Room, which she kept in honour of her late husband for many years, after he passed away in the Second World War. Left with a large building to occupy by herself, she decided to rent out the rooms to
travelers and students. To this day, we still have the original signage of the “Ambrose Travel Lodge” on the glass panel above our main entrance.
In the 1970s, the building was purchased from her as well as the house next door, and a passage was made in the staircase to merge the two sides. It was then converted into a hotel, and has remained so since.
The current owners have operated the hotel since 2011. Many changes have been made to the hotel to keep it updated including the opening of a specialty cafe in the lobby, and will continue to innovate.
Each of our rooms is unique and eclectic, featuring original architectural details and character. We’re sure you’ll find a favourite in one of our 21 units. All rooms are equipped with a 32”+ television, AC and WiFi.

"Autumn husband & wife retreat."
Stayed in the Superior Room. It wasn't huge, but compared to some other hotel rooms that claim to be deluxe, it was great. Spacious, comfortable, warm and cozy with a couch and large flat screen hdtv, electric fire place, private bathroom and comfortable queen size bed. Very polite and helpful staff each and every day and night. Usually a $20.00 parking fee daily, but with staff help in understanding road signs, and literally going outside to point out FREE parking spots, not a penny spent to park. Would and do suggest this hotel to friends, family and others.
"Quaint, unique and awesome location"
The Hotel Ambrose is a wonderful little place in the heart of downtown. Close to McGill campus and the busyness of the city. The rooms are comfortable and the continental breakfast was just as advertised. A unique place for a great price. Had a nice family vacation. Only thing to keep in mind, there are a lot of stairs and no elevator so pack light!
"Charming Little B&B in a Great Location!"
We stayed for just one night on a quick weekend visit from Boston and loved this little hotel! The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. We loved our room and the overall look and feel of of this Victorian-style hotel. The beds are super comfortable and the hotel is very clean. We did a lot of exploring and it's is in a great location as well. Breakfast is available in the morning, but it is very basic - perfect for a quick bite before heading out for the day. We will recommend Hotel Ambrose and stay again if we visit Montreal again!
"Charming boutique hotel in a beautiful world class city"
Staff are very friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast very good and well stocked. Toast, Coffee, Juice, Fruit, Cereal, Hot Tea. Quaint rooms, very clean and comfortable. AC and Heat worked wonderful as well as water temps.
Walk out of the hotel and right down into the heart of the city. Close to all museums, restaurants, shopping, Metro, underground shopping.
We plan to come back to Montreal again and again and will stay at this hotel each time.
